Cowboy Church Bass Club

2026 Northern Division Tournament Recap

Athens

July 25, 2026

Congratulations to Pat Settle and Dewey Miller.  They win First Place and take home $625.00 and catch the big bass of the tournament (caught by Pat Settle).  Pat said….”Our first spot was a glow light by a dock but when we arrived there was already another local guy fishing the light so we stopped close by and fished while waiting on them to leave the spot. I caught four or five on a 10-inch blue fleck power worm. One of them was our smallest keeper. The locals finally left about 30 minutes before daylight and we moved into the light and caught 20 or so slot fish up to 20 1/2 inches then after daylight we moved out into open water and caught probably 15 to 20 more slot fish and the other small keeper schooling out in the middle of the lake . Then with about fifteen minutes left in the tournament we moved to a brush pile and ended up catching the big bass with 9 minutes to spare on a chartreuse pumpkin trick worm. So glad for the people that spoke up to fish till 12 a.m.!”

Second Place was won by Chris Walden and Michael Walden

Michael said…..”We started off fishing a boat dock with a light on, not under water but illuminating the dock itself and a small radius around it. I flipped a Texas rig red bug trick worm with a 3/8 oz weight and instantly caught one of our unders. Told Chris to pick up the Texas rig that I rigged up the night before. Chris is mostly a crank bait guy, but after two or three cast he catches our second under. Sun was coming up and I went looking for other docks, fishing the grass out in front of the docks in 5-12 foot with Texas rigs and a 1/16 oz jig head minnow with a 3.5-inch mooch minnow we caught several bass in the slot and our third under. Moving to a point in a creek arm we both catch two big slot fish. Looking for other spots I decided to target docks with deep water directly in front of it. 10-ft or more. After flipping a few docks, Chris sets the hook. The way the rod was bent over I knew it was a good one. I grabbed the net while he was fighting the fish. After netting we measured and celebrated knowing we had a good chance of doing well”.

Third place was won by Al Kohutek.   Al said….” I ended up fishing solo because my partner’s boat was out of service. When Charley David learned I wouldn’t be able to make the tournament, he invited me to fish from his boat as a separate team so I could still earn points. We started the morning at the boat ramp and worked our way toward the dam. At 6:25 a.m.  I hooked a big bass on an extra-large Senko in a patch of lily pads. The fish measured about a quarter inch over the 21-inch mark. After landing that bass, I switched to a wacky rig and focused on catching two bass under the slot limit. Despite my best efforts, I managed to catch only one additional fish, a small bass weighing about half a pound.

4th place team was won by Joe Crouch & Kenneth Mahone.  They caught most of their fish on red bug worms in 8-15 feet

5th Place was won by Jim Howard & Hunter Howard. They caught their fish on swim jig and senko

LAKE CONDITIONS

The lake level was full.    The water clarity was clear.     The air temp was 75-90.    The water temp was 88.    Winds 5-12 mph with gusts to 16 mph.   We launched at the only public ramp on the lake. https://lakeathensmarinatx.com/  Parking was sketchy.  Good beach area.  Excellent shade for the weigh-in under the big East Texas trees. 2 porta-potty, restaurant, and store.  No ramp fees.    Grass: Everywhere.   Clouds: some early morning.   There were 2 other tournaments on the lake.  https://www.bassclubofnorthtexas.com/  (no results posted yet) and Pink Fishing Summer Sizzle Series 's https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1DTj1CuYH1/

SCATTER SHOOTING

Most teams drove to the lake the morning of, so there was not much participation at the Friday night fellowship meal………Al and Charley wanted a 10 am stop time, but others wanted a longer tournament so we stopped fishing at 12 pm……Most everyone caught slot bass……..One team was late to the weigh-in so their fish were DQed.  We will be looking at changing the rules next year so that the penalty is not so harsh..………..Charley mentioned that we are looking for a few younger leaders…… The next tournament will be on Cedar Creek at the Log Cabin ramp.  It might be an early start time.

Transcript:

My name's Terry, and I'm gonna bring y'all devotional today, and I wanna bring it, um, on something that's one of your favorite topics. What do you think that is? Fishing. There you go. I thought that would be appropriate, it would keep your attention. Right? All right, well, where in the Bible, does it, in the Bible, it says in Matthew 4:19, it says, “come follow me. Jesus said, and I will make you fishers of men. Which is one of my favorite scriptures. That's something that started the ministry, many, many years ago, when Reggie started the bass club, many years ago, it started on this particular scripture. “Come follow me”, Jesus said, “and I will make you fishers of men”. Well, when Jesus called Peter and Andrew, when they were fishing with their nets, he spoke words that would change their lives forever. He said, “Follow me. I will make you fishers of men”. These ordinary fishermen were invited into an extraordinary adventure. One where their daily walk would become a symbol of their calling.

Well, what does it mean to become a fisher of men?

Fishing requires patience, skills, and persistence. A fisherman does not catch every fish with every cast. Sometimes he waits, sometimes he tries different methods, but he always is a tenant. Jesus used this analogy to show that sharing the gospel and drawing others into God's kingdom would require the same qualities.

Our mission as believers is to reach out, to love, to serve, and to share hope, which we have in Christ with others. Well what was the call? What was the call to follow? Notice that Jesus didn't ask the disciples to change themselves or become perfect, before they started their mission. And that's what happens a lot, with people when it comes to coming into the church. They think they have to be all cleaned up. Well, if that's the case, that man wouldn't be your pastor. Because I promise you today, he's been a pastor for almost 20 years, and he's still a sinner. Like all of us. right? So you don't have to wait to get cleaned up to come follow Jesus. Jesus will do the cleaning up. He just needs you to come. So, um, notice that Jesus didn't ask his disciples to change. He simply said, Come follow me. The transformation from fisherman to fishers of men would happen as a result in the personal relationship with Jesus. And that's what it takes. It takes a personal relationship. That means you have to get into his word every single day. That means you have to have a daily prayer life. That means you have to do something every single day to grow your walk with Christ. Jesus didn't call the equipped. He equipped the call. And that's what we have to remember. He's not gonna clean you up first. He's not gonna do it. He's just asking you to be obedient to come to him.

We're all fishermen, right? We all love to fish. But we should have a higher calling. We should be fishing for men. People look to US being an example.

I remember one of the first tournaments that we fished in when starting the (Bass Club) ministry, Reggie was so adamant about catching fish. He couldn't catch a fish. And I was like, Dude, I think you remember, I think you're forgetting what you're called to do. Your call to fish for men now. Hang up the fishing for fish. And you know what? The whole thing shifted that day, and they started catching fish.

You got to remind yourself every single day what you're called to do. And that is to catch men. We love to catch fish. I get it, but our sole purpose here on Earth is to catch men to know Christ.

So how do we become fishers of men? We have to live intentionally, and we have to live with purpose. Let your life reflect Christ's love. People are drawn to anticity, authenticity, and compassion. He wants to see that you're the real deal. He doesn't want to seek safe. He doesn't want to see that. He wants to see that you're the real deal. Are you the same person today on Saturday that you are on Wednesday? Are you the same person on Sunday morning, when you go to church, that you are on Friday night? That's what he's looking for. He's looking for real followers. And that's what my question for you today, who are you following? Are you following the world, or are you following Christ?

Share your story. Your story is important, because everybody's story is different. Part of my story, as a high school team, mom dropout. GED. That's part of my story. 20 years ago, I wouldn't have shared that with you. But that's my part of my story to share with others.

So what does your story look like? Is it something that you're ashamed of, or you're embarrassed by? If not, it shouldn't be that you're embarrassed or ashamed about it, because God's gonna use that to reach somebody else. Think about that. Every time your story, you have an opportunity to share your story with somebody, share it. Because it's going to touch somebody. So share your testimony as powerful. Look for ways to meet the needs of others and show kindness.

You know, oftentimes, it's hard to show kindness in this world today. I don't know about y'all. Don't drive you crazy. Right? I'm telling you, there's a lot of stuff going on in this world that will drive you crazy. But you can't allow it. Because at the end of the day, God is still on the throne. He is still in control. So we have to remember that. We have to remember that God is still in control with all the wildness going on into the world. We need to pray and trust. Ask God to open doors and give us opportunities to share His love. What has God done for you in your life? That's a question. What has God done for you in your life? Everybody here has a testimony and everybody has a story. We need to share it.

Where is God calling you to cast your net today? It's not always at the lake. God is calling you to cast your net with other people, and most of the time, I don't know about y'all, but it's usually family. Those are the hardest ones to reach. And here's what I've learned in my short years of 20 years in ministry. I don't care who reaches them as long as they get reached. So remember that. If you can, and if you're not the one to reach your family, get somebody else. Tell them a little bit of the history and say, You know what? Talk to him. Pray with them. Do what you need to do, but get them to know Christ. Because I don't know about y'all, but it's gonna be a sad day. if you don't get to hell. And I mean that with all my heart. It's gonna be a sad day if you're not in heaven. So I want you to think about that. I want everybody here to be in heaven when I get there. Because there's gonna be lots of lakes and lots of boats, and lots of fishing.

So the deal, my question to you is, are you ready for that? Are you ready to be in heaven? Because we're not guaranteed, when we leave here today, that we're gonna be. make it to our destination. You gotta be ready.

So who in your life needs to hear hope from Jesus? That's my question I want to leave with you today. Who? Who do you mean, who do you need, who do you know that needs Christ? I want you to think about that right now. Who do you know? it you? It could be you. I don't know. But the question is, are you going to heaven? And you know what? As easy as A, B, C.

A- You accept him as your Lord and Savior?

B- you believe that he died on the cross for you,

C- Here is the kicker. You gotta commit your life.

You gotta commit your life to follow him. But remember what I said earlier. You don't have to be cleaned up. You don't have to be cleaned up. You let God do the cleaning. He will do it, just one day at a time. But you gotta be committed to it. You gotta get in your Bibles, you gotta read. You gotta be a prayer warrior. You gotta pray. You gotta do those things to grow, grow your walking price.

Well, I'm gonna end with a prayer, and I'm gonna say, y'all thank y'all for letting me do this today.

Lord Jesus. you're good. Lord Jesus, I want to thank you for allowing us to come here today. Help us to be better fishers of men. Help us be patient and persistent, and be attentive to the people that are around us. Give us courage to share your love and your wisdom on how to reach others. Lord, change hearts here today. I pray that you change hearts here today, Lord. Not just become better fisher men, but to become fisher of men. in Jesus Christ. Amen.

Joe Crouch said…. I just want to say, when You're talking to these non believers. The first time you talk to them, second time you talk to them, or the tenth time you talk to them, they may still be a non believer. But don't quit talking to them, 'cause they will come around sooner or later. Plant the seats.

We had the closing prayer and we were dismissed.

Congratulations to Kevin Davis and Byron McFarland!  Kevin said…..”We pre fished 3 weeks earlier in the month and only caught 2 fish in an area. We went there first thing on tournament day, and the bank was teaming with shad. It was funny, birds were lined up on the bank like a church potluck. We caught about 6 or 7 keepers in the first hour or so and they just seemed to stop. We decided to try deeper water with CR & TX but no luck. We then just decided to get in the lines of other boats flipping docks. I chose a jig because most people I saw were throwing plastic and I thought something different might get a bite. We caught a 3.93 on the jig and we then culled out our morning fish as well”.

Kevin and Byron weighed 9.34 pounds and took home $508.00

Second place team Chris and Michael Walden missed a tie by just 1/100s of a pound. They weighed 9.33 pounds and won $295.

Big Bass was caught by Doug Powell.  It weighed 4.25 pounds and was good for $169.00

LAKE CONDITIONS

The lake level was about 2-ft low.   The water clarity was murky.    The air temp was 78-90.   The water temp was 84-86.    Winds 9-18 mph with gusts to 25 mph.  We launched at the dam.  1 lane, plenty of parking, good beach area, and shade for the weigh-in, 1 porta-potty, no fee.   Grass: none.  Not much vegetation on the banks because of the low water.  Clouds: some early morning and scattered later.

SCATTER SHOOTING

Several teams stayed at https://lakestoremarina.com/, where the newly remodeled rooms were top notch. We also held our fellowship meal there, and it was great. After dinner, it was relaxing to visit outside our rooms………. Thanks to Sportsman of the Year Les Smith for buying several family-style rounds of fish and chips for the members at Friday dinner……… One member lost his wallet at the ramp………. Someone mentioned that two other tournaments were going on while we were there, which may explain why the lake seemed to fish small. ……… Next tournament is at Lake Athens, with an early start time so that we can beat the summertime heat.

May 16-17, 2026

Congratulations to father-in-law/son-in-law team of Joe Crouch and Darrel Walden.  They came from behind to win first place. Weighing in just 4.40 pounds on day-1, and trailing first by 6.24 pounds, they rallied on day-2 with 14.20 pounds, including an 8.68-pound kicker. Joe said the key was fishing near sand bass schools in 15–20 feet of water. Crankbaits were not effective because sand bass hit them on nearly every cast, so they used red bug C-rig speed worms to get through to the black bass. Joe said the old sow never jumped after she was hooked, and it now stands as the biggest bass of 2026.

Doyle Ray and Ty Wagner finished in second place using C-rigs, trick worms, shaky heads, and chatter baits. They led after day one, helped by a 5.06-pound kicker.  They edged out the third-place finisher by just 0.15 hundredths of an ounce.

Joe’s grandson Michael Walden and great-grandson Chris Walden took third place using Berkley square-bill crankbaits and a jig head minnow rigged with Freeloader minnows. They missed second place by just 0.15 hundredths of an ounce—an amount a bass can easily lose in the livewell after relieving itself or throwing up its breakfast.

LAKE CONDITIONS

The lake level was 13.84-ft low.  It was about 2.5-ft lower than when we fished it last year.   The water clarity was murky in the creeks.    The air temp was day-1 68-86 / day-1 73-79.   The water temp was 72+.    Winds Day-1 6-20 mph with gusts to 26 mph / Day-2 6-15 mph with gusts to 20 mph.  We launched at the only ramp open, located at the dam.  No shade, plent of parking, 2 lane ramp, hard rock beaching area, no lights at the ramp, shallow ramp, 1 porta-potty, no fee.   Grass: none.   Clouds: Day-1 scattered / Day-2 cloudy.

Other tournaments on the lake.

Day 1: The lake was packed as West Texas Bass Trail 2.0 rolled in with 46 teams. Results https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1D6afx6nQP/  Due to the wind, every spot out of the wind had boats on it.  Every inch of the lake was hammered.

Day 2: Cast Couples fished with about 8 teams https://www.facebook.com/share/p/18TiPGyBTC/  Unlike the crowded first day, the lake opened up, and with cloud cover, mild temperatures, and plenty of fishable water, it turned into a much more enjoyable day on the water.

SCATTER SHOOTING

John and Al fished ½ of day-1 and all of day-2 with a broken trolling motor……Randy and Jake Ward had motor problems…….Many teams stayed at https://www.villageinnbreckenridge.com/ which offered excellent motel rooms, cabins, and guest houses at an affordable price.…….Fellowship day-1 was at https://www.facebook.com/people/Ernies-Spanish-Kitchen/100057329745140/  This was perfect for us because we had one long table against the back wall and we were able to checkin several teams that evening…….Fellowship day-2 was at Charley and Les rental house at Village Inn.  Les and his crew cooked hamburgers and hotdogs.  Several people brought sides, drinks and deserts.  Thanks to Les and Charley for the elk and bison burgers and hot dogs………On day-2, because we were already checked in, teams could go to their first spot at any time in the morning.  First cast was at 6:00 am. This made launch real easy…….Jordan Clayton had a family issue that caused him to leave early and head home on Saturday. Please keep his family in your prayers…………4 of the 6 people in the money were from the Crouch clan…… Next tournament is at Lake Winnsboro on June 27. Pray for rain in that area because the lake is low.

LAKESIDE DEVO – Charley David led our church service.  The focus of the service was on PEACE

Charley asked us, “What do you think of when you think of peace?”.

Some of us replied with ….”When everthing is right with my family”,  “When we are out on the lake fishing”, “Being healthy”, “Being saved”….

Charley told about a recent situation that involved a golfing accident and how that incident temporarily removed his peace for a couple of days.  It was also a wakeup call on what having peace really is.  That is we cannot truly achieve peace unless it is in our Lord and Savior Jesus.  Knowing that this is not our home and that there is a better place will transform our mindset when adversities occur.

“Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.”

Philippians 4:7 NLT

Peace is not a trouble free life.  Charley used the Christian persecutions in the Middle East and elsewhere around the world as an example.

“I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.””

John 16:33 NLT

Imagine being indestructibl! Even death has no power over you.

That’s faith in our Lord & savior.

If you want a peaceful life? Choose it!

Being right is pride.  You don’t always have to win an argument with your wife, family, or friends.  It’s not worth it in the end.

“For the Scriptures say, “If you want to enjoy life and see many happy days, keep your tongue from speaking evil and your lips from telling lies. Turn away from evil and do good. Search for peace, and work to maintain it.”

1 Peter 3:10-11 NLT

Be peacefull or you will struggle.

Charley encouraged those that are not baptized to get-r-done.  We can make it happen right here, right now.

Joe Lee closed the servie with a prayer and we discussed start times and procuders for tomorrow.

April 25,2026

Congratulations to first place winners Andy Vaughan of Maypearl and Adren Allen of Waxahachie.

Andy said…. ”We didn’t get a chance to practice before the tournament, so we went down to an area near the State park and fished some rocks. We had a limit of 2-3 pounders within the first hour. They came on lipless cranks, and top-waters. 2 of our 3 were smallmouth but they were eventually culled when we landed the 7.08 on a top-water and another heavy 3-pounder.  The bite slowed down after the first two hours.  We then went to another area nearby and culled another fish flipping a TX-rigged brush hog I poured (homemade) this week, similar to the zoom watermelon magic. We also caught keeper fish off brush on a senko I poured in the same color.  We probably caught 20 fish total all day, but the bite was very slow after about 9-10 am.

Scary side note, the split ring on the treble hook failed as we were landing the 7-pounder in the net.”

Kevin Davis caught the big bass of the tournament on a chartreuse & white spinner bait with a Lake Fork trailer fishing mid lake.  He said…”We were about to leave the area because we weren't getting any bites. Then bam. She went under the trolling motor around it and then right back out before we could get the net. Should have lost it!”   Kevin said they caught most of their bass on underwater structure, but it had to be totally submerged.

Kevin and Byron McFarlan also took 2nd giving them a $436 pay day.

LAKE CONDITIONS

The lake level was 0.67-ft low. The water clarity was kind of murky.    The air temp was 73-85.   The water temp was 73+.  Winds 8-14 mph with gusts to 18 mph.

We launched at McCown Valley park.  If your tournament launches there, be sure and get an activity permit well in advance. Plenty of parking, clean bathrooms.  Grass: found central lake in the flooded flats.

SCATTER SHOOTING

John and Al figured out what the issue was on their boat motor at Bob Sandlin……..We shared the lake with Rough Creek Bass Club.  https://www.facebook.com/groups/1137488920101372/ I did not find a website for them……….Al Kohutek checked in the teams while waiting for the gate to open at 6 am………There was a fish fry on fry-day after practice. Thanks to Jon Yohner and Lee Davis for helping and donating the fish……We had 30 teams.  If we had 1 more, then we would have paid 2 places on big bass……..Reggie and Teri Stewart thought they were renting a screened in shelter at McCown Valley, but they found out checking in, that they rented a pavilion. They ended up staying at Cherokee Village Resort and were very pleased with the accommodations https://www.cherokeevillageresort.com/  ……Next tournament is a 2-day tournament on Hubbard Creek.

LAKESIDE DEVO – Al Kohutek Led the DEVO on Fellowship

What we are doing right here, right now is true Christian fellowship.

Fellowship is one of the most important parts of the Christian life. God did not create us to live in isolation. God designed us to grow, encourage, and support one another through relationships.

The Bible emphasizes the significance of fellowship throughout its teachings, promoting a sense of community, mutual support, and shared spiritual growth among believers.

HEBREWS 10:24-25 “And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another

Believers are encouraged not to forsake assembling together, emphasizing the importance of meeting regularly to encourage and uplift one another.

Christian fellowship is the mutual bond that believers share in their relationship with Jesus and with each other. In the Bible the Greek term is “koinónia,” Koy No Nee HA.  It transulates to fellowship, partnership, participation, and sharing

ACTS 2:42  “They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.”

It gets even deeper when we fellowship one-on-one with each other.  Before I moved full time to Lake Whitney, I lived on a very cool community lake, and we had a bass club and we fished with a random neighbor every other tournament.  At the end of the tournament you had one of the best opportunities to get to know your neighbor.  When my partner John, was out year after last due to back surgery, it was the perfect opportunity fish as a substitute on other team and get to know y’all better.

Look, we have some of the best opportunities to fellowship one-on-one with are teammates…..Driving together to the lake and spending time with each other at our lodging and being on the water.

MATTHEW 18:20 “For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.”

This club gathers in Jesus name. It is our main focus. Cowboy Church Bass Club exists to unite Christians and reach out to non-Christians with the love of Jesus Christ through competitive bass fishing tournaments. Mission: To Glorify God, Create Fellowship, and bring people to know "God and His Word"

One of my favorite proverbs is…

PROVERBS 27:17 “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.”

Fellowship fosters spiritual growth and accountability. It normalizes our beliefs in the dark world that we live in.  Hopefully our wives see this and understand what we are doing here is not just fishing.

ECCLESIASTES 4:9-10 “Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them.”

Bottom line is God created us for community and there are plenty of scriptures that back that up. Maybe the strongest argument for community comes from looking at the life of our Master and Leader, Jesus Christ. He surrounded Himself with twelve disciples and out those twelve, were three who He was especially close to – Peter, James, and John.

If Jesus needed such deep camaraderie and community, it’s a safe bet that we do to.

The next tournament is a 2-day event on Hubbard Creek.  There will be many opportunities for fellowship.

If you would like to lead a devo but don’t know where to begin, you can follow the guide on our website at  http://www.cowboychurchbassclub.org/BassClubDevo.pdf

Prayer - Dear Lord, we thank You for placing us in this group of fisherman, where we can grow and sharpen one another in faith. Help us to be bold in encouraging each other and humble in receiving feedback. Give us the courage to have honest conversations and the love to support one another through challenges. Teach us to grow in wisdom, grace, and understanding as we seek to follow You. Strengthen our bonds and guide us in becoming the people Youve called us to be. Let our lives reflect Your glory as we grow together in faith.

Amen.

Charley updated us on a few things and encouraged us to share our testimony.

Teri Stewart closed the tournament with a prayer, and we were dismissed.

The Classic on Bob Sandlin & Cypress Springs

April 10-12, 2026

Donna and Charley David take the win and a $1,500 payout!  Charley said…..”I practiced by myself because Donna was taking care of some home chores and the kids. Friday at practice I chose to start on Cypress Springs. I located some fish on the dam and then worked my way up the lake. As I got up on the north end, I stumbled onto a spinner bait bite on the deep edge of the docks. Just one good fish, but it was a seed to a pattern that we exploited on day one. I also located quite a few bed fish on the lower end of the lake in the clear water the males were locked on, but the females were very skittish. I went to Bob Sandlin in the afternoon and caught a few fish, but not the quality that I was catching at Cypress Springs.

The plan was set for Saturday. We were going to start at the dam and then go up north. When we got to the ramp Saturday morning, there were 10 boats in front of us. The boats in front of us beat us to the dam. We fished it briefly and then went up north where we expanded on the pattern. We caught most of our fish on Saturday on the double Willow leaf white spinner bait. We lost a monster fish on my first cast with the spinner bait. I was very frustrated. Asking God why me. His answer was have faith. On day two, our North area was blown out, and we were not able to catch anything. So, we scrambled finally being able to catch some fish on crank baits around some docks further south with some cleaner water. We were able to catch a limit, but it was not a big one. I didn’t think we had enough for the win, but I was OK with it knowing God had blessed us and if he wanted us to win, we would win. Donna and I fished our first tournament with the Cowboy Church Bass Club 20 years ago this spring. We will celebrate our 20th anniversary this year in May. This is the first Classic that we have won. It is a very special win for us We are very thankful to God for the blessings to him goes to the glory”.

LAKE CONDITIONS

Day 1 - The air temp was 58-80.   Winds 5-17 mph.

Day 2 - The air temp was 67-70.   Winds 10-18 mph with gusts to 23.  Rain most of the day.

The lake level was 1 ft low. The water clarity was clear to murky depending on where you were.  The water temp was in the 70-75. Grass: Lots of vegetation in the Monticello Cove and Jakes Creek.  There was a shad spawn Saturday morning at different areas on the lake.

We launched at the State Park.  Everything was good there, but parking was a little tight for those getting there late. The park staff was very helpfull!

SCATTER SHOOTING

This tournament was mostly funded from last year’s entry fees.  Congratulations to the teams that qualified for free entry ……….Please keep Brandon Wooddell and his family in your prayers. He recently lost his father last week and could not be here because he was at the funeral…..Someone other than Al fell in the lake………….Two teams were late to the weigh-in and after much consideration by the leadership, the teams were given a 2-pound penalty instead of a DQ. This impacted their tournament placement. Don’t be late to weigh-in!.......……The fish limits were switched from day 1 to day 2 due to the uncertain weather conditions predicted for Sunday……..We were able to use the park’s pavilion for our church service. Everything went perfect and Reggie Stwart gave a great sermon Sunday morning…….A lot of research went into deciding the ramp location and the final decision to use the State Park turned out to be the best.  There were two other tournaments on Bob Samdlin.  Here is the Media tournament results https://mediabass.com/2k26/TX/INE/4.shtml  and there was another tournament on Cypress Springs, so both lakes were crowded..………Only two teams missed the Saturday night fellowship at Vaughn’s Catfish restaurant, thanks to Les Smith for making the reservations………….Thanks to Gus Chavira from the Central Division. He created a custom spreadsheet to calculate all the weights and that made things a lot easier on day 2 when handing out the money.…….Several teams lodged over night at the State Park.  The cabins and screened in shelters were very affordable……The next tournament is on Lake Whitney.  There will be a fish fry at Al’s house on Friday afternoon after practice.

Richland Chambers

March 21, 2026

Brandon Wooddell and Keith McMillan beat the field using flukes and trick worms around docks.  Brandon said..…”We caught 2 keepers on our first spot. Moved to the second spot that produced in the past and caught nothing. Went back to first spot, and it was dead. We didn’t have anything to fall back on and no knowledge on how to run in low water timbered areas, we started fishing the docks. We fished several before I caught our limit fish on a 6” trick worm at 1 o’clock. We ran the rest of the docks in that area doing the same and culled up. Blessed to win, thought it would take much more to win on Chambers in March” Their 11.79-pound sack was worth $470.00.

Big BassCarson Brock catches the big bass of the tournament weighing in at 6.26 pound and wins $156.00 plus he and Chance Barnett take 3rd place for $160 netting them $320.00. Their’s were caught using Senkos and jigs in 12-ft of water near tree stumps.

LAKE CONDITIONS

The lake level was 1.92 ft low. The water clarity was murky.    The air temp was 61-91.   The water temp was in the 58-63.  Winds 5-17 mph.

We launched at Fisherman’s Point https://fishermanspoint.com/  Plenty of parking, good shade, great restaurant, clean bathrooms and friendly staff.  Grass: We only found one cove that had it near Fisherman’s Cove Lodge area.  There was hardly any structure near the bank other than boat docks, seawalls, or rock.  They bass had not spawned yet and were mainly staging out in deeper water.   Later in the day, some bass did start moving up in the shallows.

SCATTER SHOOTING

Brandon Wooddell took a picture of a huge catfish that died trying to swallow a bass…….Al Kohutek and John Yohner stayed in Cabin #1 at fisherman’s point.  It was nice, clean, and they could park their boat right behind the cabin………..Donna had to recalculate the payouts 3 times……Brian Hopkins who knows this lake like the back of his hand said: “We weren’t even getting bites. Five bites all day. I lost a nice one on a crankbait. Got hung up. Stopped to see if it would back off the stump. The bass came out of the water and I set hook with it in midair. Got it nearly all the way to the boat. Noticed it only had one hook. It jumped and away it went! Good Times!”……..Hybrid stripers were plentiful at the water fall……….John Yohner caught a nice 3 pound rock on a crank bait…….Donna David lost an 8-pounder…..Carol Gaines started the morning off right by spilling a full bottle of red tail dye on the boat’s console and on her legs….Al got a bad sun burn.  He also had his hat also fly off his head about 6 times in the wind during the tournament….……..The next tournament will be the Classic on Bob Sandlin and Cypress Springs.  More details to come on that.

Palestine

February 28, 2026

Joe Crouch and Kenneth Mahone secured first place with a just two‑fish, 1 fish shy of a limit. They began the morning fishing boathouses across the lake from Flat Creek Marina, an area that had produced well in the past, particularly on one point. After failing to put any fish in the livewell, they made a strategic move at 12:00 pm to move to the back of Flat Creek near where the cattails are.

It was about 1:00 pm when Kenneth hooked the first big bass.  Joe was a little slow getting the net and the fish was becoming tangled at the back of the boat in the motor and the power poles.  After a struggle, they finally got the hawg in the boat. It weighed 6.65-lb. Kenneth caught the second big bass soon after the first, it was about 30-yards from the first big one.  They had the net ready this time. It weighed 4.97-lb.  A third big bass was hooked up but came unbuttoned.

All the fish were caught on green pumpkin Yamamoto Cowboy baits.  After Kenneth caught a couple of fish, Joe decided to tie a cowboy bait on and right off noticed the legs were fastened to the body, so he unhooked the legs. They ended up catching a lot of undersized bass in that area and at the end of the day, Joe realized that Kenneth had been catching the big bass with the legs fastened to the body.  It is strange how little variations of the same bait produce different results.

Kenneth’s 2 fish weighed 11.62-lb and were good for $831.00.  First place paid $665 and Kenneth also caught the big bass of the tournament.  It paid $166.

LAKE CONDITIONS

The lake level was full. The water clarity was mostly murky.    The air temp was 58-82.   The water temp was in the 60-70s.  Winds 0-10 mph.

We launched at Flat Creek.  Grass: Authorities had been spraying Diquat herbicide on the aquatic vegetation in the Kickapoo and Old Folks areas of the lake, so grass was hard to find if any.

SCATTER SHOOTING

We might as well start off with the dock swim. Someone in the crowd said “that’s going to make the write-up” so here it is: Al Kohutek was walking on the floating dock next to the seawall where parts of the dock were missing.  He went into the water.  The dock was black and there was no light. See the pictures of the dock. Luckly it was not cold and Al had a change of clothes...…We had 34 teams and several new faces. Thanks to Reggie for getting his club signed up to fish with us this year…….Many teams reported catching undersized bass and some teams reported that the practice days were producing better fish……..One team had boat problems.………Les Smith received his Sportsman plaque and several teams that missed the banquet picked up their plaques too….…….Some teams trailered to Kickapoo and Old Folks…...We launched at Flat Creek Marina. John Yohner did all the coordination between the club and marina.  https://www.flatcreekmarina.com/  What a great place to hold a tournament.  Plenty of parking, great docking area and weigh-in area, nice cabins, 2 lane boat ramp, and friendly service. They went out of their way to make the event great…..Thanks also to Big Rip's Delicious BBQ by Roy Hightower  https://www.facebook.com/Bigripsdeliciousbbq/# They served us BBQ at the weigh-in. ……..If you lost your earbuds, Flat Creek Marina has them in the office..….Next tournament will be on Richland Chambers.

Everybody wanna come in close?

Figured out why the good Lord gave me this voice. Uh... I'll think about John the Baptist, you know? You think that boy didn't have a voice? Didn't have no loudspeakers back in. Spoke. Okay, so, uh, we talked about some this morning your perception. Is your reality? But it can keep you from the truth, right? I mean, people can talk in their mind. They can develop thoughts, but it can also put you in a position where you're not willing to are ready to receive the truth.

You know, my pastor did a deal, um, a few years back. Brother Gary, would you recognize Jesus? So, I'm gonna ask you, John, who in this crowd looks most like Jesus?

I don't know. I ain't got no pictures of you, dude. No? No? And the ones we got, who knows how close they are. Well, I'm gonna tell you, I'm gonna tell you this. What did Jesus send to live in us, living our hearts? Holy Spirit. Holy Spirit. We all got Jesus living in us, boys. Girls, Jesus lives in all of us. You gotta be prepared to get this third look for it. The Pharisees, what were the Pharisees looking for? They were looking for a general. They were looking for a king. They were looking for a strong, you know, somebody like David, right? Gonna conquer the lion, conquer Goliath. So, uh, Isaiah 714. This is 700 years before Jesus came around. All right, then, the Lord himself will give you the sign. Look, the virgin will conceive a child. She will give birth to a son and we'll call him Emmanuel, which means God is with us. So the question is, is Jesus the lion or the lamb, right? The Jews thought he was gonna be a lion. But what's the word say for the child is born to us, the son is given to us, the government will rest on his shoulders, and he will be called wonderful counselor, mighty God, everlasting father, prince of peace. That's not like a warrior? Does it sound like a general? Strong. Come, come, take back what's his. He did come back. He did take work back for it, to see it? With love, and kindness, and healing, and sacrifice. He didn't do it the way we think. He didn't do it the way we eat, had in our mind, you know, that's why, why do you think the people that received Jesus the most were the people who knew the least about the Bible? The Pharisees, the Sadducees, the guys that were educated. They didn't get it, most of them. I mean, there are a few of them did. Most of them didn't get it. They had this thought, and they're mine.

You know, we were talking this morning. I see all these freedoms, freedom hats. Charlie Kirk, the guy that killed Charlie Kirk in his mind, that was his, he believed he was doing the right thing. He believed he was helping the world. Taking this guy out? Because he spoke against what he believed.

We got little kids. in schools. Believing their cats? Dog? Girls thinking the boys, boys thinking they're girls? I mean, my little girl thought she was gonna be a dog. How'd that work, baby girl? She didn't want living the kennel. She didn't want to eat that. You know what? Her reality came back. You know what I mean? Oh. I think more people do that. Set their kids up for success. Set 'em up. Hey, reality is reality. I'm a human being. I'm a little girl. That's where God made me to be.

Anyway, I mean, I'm in the construction business, and in the last 10 years, I will say my, uh... dynamic of what I do has changed 180 degrees and a lot of it is because people keep telling me. You're perception. perception is their reality. But what about the church? Where does the truth come into that? Where does the truth come into your reality? Dude, I'll be number one. Oh, it's like... Brent said this morning, if it crash is your reality, if you're in Christ, then fast is your reality. It wouldn't Christ believe in. The Bible, the book. He said. These are my words right here. It's as many people, this is John 1242. Many people did believe in him. However, including some of the Jewish leaders, but they wouldn't admit it, for fear that the Pharisees would expel them from the synagogue. Whoo! One, one, one, uh, it says, for their riches, they didn't want to lose their wealth. How many know the story about the rich ruler? Man, he's ready to give it all. He ready to do it all, except to give up his wealth. He didn't want to sell everything. Come follow Jesus. He was pretty. own. Yes, sir. Getting fanned by the... palm trees, you know? You didn't want to live that reality. You want to live his reality. And the gosp was dead, right? There's two choices. According to the book, there's two choices there's ever the everlasting life, and there's everlasting death. Choose you this day, which one you're gonna follow. you know? Thank you. Joshua says, as for me in my house, we're gonna serve the Lord. Amen. And I hope you're serving the Lord, too. Because this is a little bitty blitz. In eternity. Probably immeasurable. You know, 10,000 years from today, if you're a Christian, you're still gonna be hanging out with Jesus. 10 years, 10,000 years from today, if you're not, you're still gonna be living death. I don't know what that is. A lot of thoughts on that? A lot of theologists that have opinions, but I can tell you what it ain't. It ain't... it ain't paradise. It ain't live with Jesus. But whatever we're doing, that's where I want to go hang out. So what I'm saying to all you guys is make sure your reality fits biblical reality. Make sure it fits the truth. Because that's what's gonna get you eternal life. All this other stuff, the world, no matter how popular you think it is, no matter how much money it puts in your pocket. It's gonna be worthless. 50 years from now, most of you are gonna be where I'm at. And everything you buy and everything you acquired and everything that you got is gonna be worthless. You know, I always wonder, why did you, why did God pay those... streets of hair with doubles? Because he wanted you to know what it was worth. What do we pay streets with? Concrete and asphalt. Okay? Don't don't mean nothing, it ain't worth nothing up there. What's worth something is our soul. We got to make sure we're taking care of that. Like my little girl, she puts on my wife. She runs through with my kids every morning, they run through, putting on their armor. You know? Preparing for the day. You know? That's the kind of stuff we need to be teaching our kids. That's the kind of stuff we need to be. That needs to be their reality. Doesn't affect your own. That's right.

Hey, Charlie. Anybody? Yes, sir. You know what’s sad? You know, y'all may have heard the bombings commencing over in Iran. Yep. And those people over there, their reality is, we're infidels, and this all stems back from biblical days, and they're here to kill us, you know, any chance they get. And so, you know, that that whole thing... I mean, I know, for a fact, there's Christians over there. Oh, I'm sure. And they're, you know, they're meeting secret secretly, and they're they're under the, you know, under the gun, 'cause if they get caught, they're dead. They just kill him. You know?

I don't know if y'all know, you guys see the Christian fish, this little side note. You know how the Christian fish came about?

Yes….that was a sign. Draw it in the sand, and it would tell them that it's never a Christian. Yep. You walked up, and you did this, another Christian would walk up and do the same thing on the other side, and he'd make Christian fish. There was a sign that you were safe to speak with that person. I'm sure them folks over there that are Christian, they've got assigned to, you know? It's a crazy reality of life. I mean, it's, uh, it's biblical. It's unfolding right here before our eyes, and, uh, we need to be paying attention. Making sure that we got our ducks in row, and our kids got our ducks in row, and we're speaking the truth, even if it's not popular, even if it's not the world doesn't like it. Even if the world doesn't want to hear it, we still got to speak it. Charlie Kirk spoke the truth. And people hated him and loved him for it. And somebody's reality allowed him to kill it. Kill him for you. It's a pretty crazy world.

Prayer Request

so... Anyway, anybody got any prayer requests? I know we always forget to talk about that.

Joe….Yes, sir. My wife's having, uh, heart surgery, the 9th of March. Okay. So I appreciate everybody putting her on your prayer list. Pray for Tina. Yes. All right.

Anybody else? I got my mom's diagnosed with Alzheimer's. It's been a big adjustment for everyone. I mean, we've kind of seen her slipping a little bit, but kind of formally now.

Charley….Yeah, I went to a funeral last weekend, my mom, and I was pulled into Arizona, and she said, What are you doing here? And I said, I'm here for Abby's funeral. She said, We just went to church last week, and Emmy died in December 26. I know I know I know your thoughts. I mean, that's it. That's a crazy deal. Um... Phil Hickle? Uh, I know we need to be praying for Phil. He's going through some stuff.

Anybody else? John….I got an uncle that's in the hospital, who's got some bad problems in his back. Got a couple of vertebras. He'd disintegrate and stuff, and, so, he's been in some bad things for about three months, and been tough, so... Yep. Yes, sir.

Anybody else? All right, let's go, Lord. Heavenly Father, we need something to come before you, Lord. Thank you so much for the gift, the gift of you and the Holy Spirit, Lord, to guide and direct us, Lord. We just ask that we just, uh, everybody here, just... ripped the Band Aid off, Lord. Listen, hear, hear the Spirit speak to us. Know the truth and speak it. Lord, we pray that the fair requests that were brought before us, Lord, that you just hold them up, Lord, that, uh, each and every one of them, Lord, that your will be done. Lord, we love Tina's a long time. Part of this club, and just a sweet, sweet lady, done so much for us. Phil, Lord, you know, what he's going through, Lord, just give him comfort, healing. Lord. Just be with all of them, God direct them, Lord. And most of all, make sure they know you, Lord. So they can be home with you when it's all over. Um, I thank you for everything. I thank you for this club. I thank you for every man and woman here. I praise you in Jesus' name. Amen. Amen.

All right. Let's give away some Money.

Joe Crouch closed us with a prayer, and we were dismissed.
